Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during the mindfulness sessions?

Most of the classes and practice sessions follow a set pattern which starts with greetings and getting settled.  We then begin with a short ‘arriving’ guided meditation practice sometimes followed by reflection on the experiences of the practice.  Each session has a topic that is incorporated any discussion. This is followed by another guided practice with some reflection, through Inquiry, on what we might be able to learn.

What is Inquiry?
Inquiry within a mindfulness context refers to the time in a mindfulness session when the teacher invites participants to describe, comment or reflect on their experience and what they noticed during the meditation.  This is done straight after the meditation, facilitated by the teacher, and is an important part of mindfulness practice.  Inquiry is not group therapy or about fixing or problem solving by the teacher or any other members of the group but can be an opportunity to reflect and learn.  There is no obligation to share or take part in inquiry and you may wish to take the time to listen and reflect on your own experience.

Practicalities
Wear comfortable clothes. For most of the practices we sit on a normal chair. However, some sessions may include lying on the floor (if you choose), simple stretches, and gentle mindful movement.  You may wish to have a yoga mat (or similar) and cushions to make this more comfortable.   However, all of the practices can be done sitting.

Please read the Safety Notice for attending the mindfulness practice sessions and courses.

Courses that are online using Zoom
Where possible please use a private space where you will not be disturbed so that you and the group can achieve the highest levels of participation and confidentiality. Where you are not in a private space, to support confidentiality we ask that you use a headset or earphones rather than the speakers on your device and as much as possible have your screen facing away from the others in the room.

If you have any other questions about attending the course online, please let me know.
